Description of the Odigitriyevskaya church in the village of Palets, Nizhny Novgorod district, compiled by Archimandrite Makariy in the 1850s. The church is situated on an elevation next to a ravine known as the holy glade and is surrounded by a stone fence four arshins high with three towers, among old birches. According to records, it was built in 1681 thanks to the efforts of the boyar Fyodor Semyonovich Urusov. This is the second church of the village of Palets, like the Church of Kosmodamianskaya, it has a square shape with a semicircular altar, a flat roof, five domes, and small windows. A warm refectory with an altar dedicated to Saint Catherine the Great Martyr is attached to the church. The interior decoration of the temple testifies to its antiquity: a five-tiered iconostasis with large carvings and almost solid gilding, the icons have darkened with time, and the massive vault is supported by two huge pillars. A tall stone bell tower is located ten sazhens from the church. Among the attractions of the Odigitriyevskaya church is the Miraculous Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos Odigitriya of the Passion. It is one arshin and five vershoks long, and exactly one arshin wide. The icon is adorned with a silver-gilded riza, and the veil on the face of the Mother of God and the swaddling on the face of the Eternal Infant are inlaid with pearls, diamonds, and other precious stones. The icon was glorified thanks to a woman from the village of Palets named Ekaterina during the reign of Mikhail Fyodorovich, and it was painted by the Nizhny Novgorod icon painter Grigory.
