On November 17, 2015, a solemn opening of a new wooden church dedicated to the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church took place in the village of Tonkino. This event was organized by the Old Believer community from the village of Bolshoye Nepryakhino in the Uren district. The head of the Tonkino district administration, Yu.A. Udalov, and the head of the administration, A.V. Baev, congratulated the residents and thanked everyone who participated in the construction of the church.

The Nizhny Novgorod lands have long been settled by Old Believer Christians since the 17th and 19th centuries. Many of them moved here to escape persecution in central Russia. Numerous Old Believer sketes and villages were located in the Kerzhensky and Vetluzhsky forests. Today, Old Believer communities are actively reviving in this region. The construction of the church began in the summer of 2012 with the support of the Moscow Metropolis, the Nizhny Novgorod and Bolshenepryakhinsk churches, as well as the district administration. The local authorities provided significant support to the believers in organizing the construction. The church was mainly built on donations, with participation from 778 people, including residents of the district and individuals from Nizhny Novgorod, Kirov, Moscow, Shakhunya, the village of Arya, and parishioners of the Bolshenepryakhinsk church. Important contributions were made by the Moscow Metropolis, the Nizhny Novgorod Old Believer Church, as well as Nikolai Grigoryevich Korotkov, Vyacheslav Fedorovich Zavyalov, Yuri Alekseevich Udalov, Anatoly Vasilyevich Krasilnikov, and the Potekhin, Zorin, and Voievodkin families.

Most residents of the Tonkino district are Old Believers or descendants of Old Believers, so the reviving community has good prospects for growth. The church continues to undergo finishing work and the installation of the iconostasis, but it is already open daily. Everyone is welcome to visit, light a candle, request a service, or ask a spiritual question.

The solemn consecration of the church was conducted by Archpriest Mikhail from the Nizhny Novgorod church and Priest Ioann from the Bolshenepryakhinsk church. The service was attended not only by residents of Tonkino but also by people from neighboring villages and settlements, for whom this event also became a celebration.
