The village of Kubentsevo in the Balakhna district was the eastern boundary of the lands of Prince D. M. Pozharsky in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Here he built a church in honor of the Meeting of the Lord to commemorate his ancestral estate in Moscow, which was located near the ancient Sretensky Monastery.

After the death of Dmitry Mikhailovich, the village passed to his son, Prince Ivan Dmitrievich Pozharsky, who owned it until his death in February 1668. Previously, we mentioned that Ivan Dmitrievich was involved in the completion of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church in the Makaryev Monastery from 1647 to 1654. At the same time, he completed the construction of the Sretensky Church in Kubentsevo, adding two new chapels, and the church became three-altar. This is confirmed by a record in the list of parish churches of the Balakhna tithe: the Meeting of the Lord in the estate of the chamberlain Prince Ivan Dmitrievich Pozharsky in the village of Kubentsevo. Initially, the single-altar church collected 56 kopecks, and after the expansion to three altars, the collection increased to 2 rubles and 83 kopecks, which is 5 times more.

In the address-calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese for 1888, it is stated about the Kubentsevo church: "A stone church, in honor of the Meeting of the Lord, built in 1807, three-altar."

In the late 1930s, the Sretensky Church was closed by the authorities, but during the Great Patriotic War, it was reopened for believers, and it continues to operate to this day.
