According to one version, the settlement of Maza was founded in 1580 after the conquest of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible. A road connecting the Urals with Moscow passed through this territory, along which cattle were driven across the Maza River at that time.

According to another version, the village appeared in 1706 and was initially called the New Alexandrovskaya Sloboda, belonging to Prince A. D. Menshikov. After his fall in May 1729, Maza was transferred to the Levashov brothers. Later, the village was owned by the treasury.

The village is located on an ancient postal tract, where there was a large postal station.

In the early 18th century, there was already a wooden church in the village. In the early 19th century, it was transferred to the village of Novopoltsyevo in the Stavropol district. Construction of a new stone church began in 1803 and was completed in 1837. Its construction was carried out by landowner Levashov.

The church has two altars: the main one is dedicated to the Merciful Savior, and in the chapel, to the holy prophet John the Baptist.

During the Soviet era, the church was closed for a long time, and its building fell into disrepair. Currently, restoration work is being carried out with funds from parishioners and organizations. Since 2006, the Church in the Name of the Merciful Savior in the village of Maza has been under the jurisdiction of the Parish of the Church in Honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tolyatti.
