The church in question is located in the village of Sukharensky in the Gorodetsky district, although it officially belongs to the neighboring village of Podoltsy in the Nizhny Novgorod diocese. According to local legends, about 270 years ago, the temple was planned to be built in Podoltsy, and a cornerstone was even delivered there. However, soon this stone, as locals say, "floated" to Sukharensky. It was transported back to Podoltsy, but the stone ended up in Sukharensky again. After the third relocation, it was decided that this was a sign, and the church should be built where the stone "stopped." Thus, the Church of the Transfiguration appeared in Bolshie Sukharensky, which even functioned during Soviet times. The stone that became the hero of this story is still located in Sukharensky, and it is attributed with healing properties. People turn to it for help with illnesses and infertility.
