Church of the Transfiguration in Spas-Zhelezino

Фото 1
The Vladimir burial sites, founded by the tsar, as previously mentioned, as well as some in the Sudogodsky district, have a unique feature: their churches are dedicated to the feast of the Transfiguration of the Savior, meaning they are Spaso-Transfiguration churches. Another characteristic of these burial sites is that the construction of churches by Ivan the Terrible is not confirmed by written sources, as repeatedly noted by V.G. Dobronravov in his work "Historical and Statistical Description of the Churches and Parishes of Vladimir Province."

At the burial site of Spas-Zhelezino, located on the Tetrukh River in the Sudogodsky district, now in the Selivanovsky region, there is a legend that the horses of Ivan the Terrible fell from iron tumors. There is also an ancient legend that Ilya Muromets galloped to Kiev for service and left the imprint of his heroic hoof on a large boulder. Recently, this boulder was smashed by unknown vandals.
