The village of Spas-Kupalishche is located at the confluence of the Sudogda River into the Klyazma, 22 km from Sudogda and 27 km from Vladimir. According to legend, the church in this village was founded when Ivan the Terrible was returning from Kazan. It is said that the tsar ordered the church to be built at the place of his rest and bathing. The first mentions of the village appear in the patriarchal books from 1628: "the church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ in the village of Kupalishchi." In 1663, a new wooden church was built in honor of the Transfiguration. In 1763, the temple was rebuilt and remained unchanged until 1869, when it was dismantled. The church had one dome and a covered gallery. In 1800, the construction of a warm stone church began, which was consecrated in 1805. In 1836, the church was expanded, and in 1852 it was dismantled and rebuilt in a larger form. In 1869, the construction of a cold stone church began, connected to the warm church. The construction and finishing work continued until 1881, when the church was consecrated. Between 1885 and 1888, the stone bell tower was rebuilt. The church housed five altars. Among the ancient items in the church were the altar Gospel from 1628 and the service book from 1668. In the 20th century, residents of nearby villages would come to the ruined church to pray or simply stand in silence, often hearing mysterious singing under its arches. This is recounted by various people who independently visited the church. In June 2002, Bishop Evlogy blessed the creation of a dependency of the Holy Bogolyubsky Convent at the site of the Spas-Kupalishche village. Currently, services have resumed in the chapel of the Protection of the Holy Virgin in the Church of the Transfiguration.
