The village of Spasskoye-Ivanovo is located on the Tara River, 22 versts from the district town and 100 versts from the provincial capital. The first mentions of the church in the village of Ivanovo appear in the patriarchal tax books, where in 1628 it is noted: "The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in the village of Ivanovo in the estate of the boyar Prince Grigory Petrovich Romodanovsky." Thanks to this church, the village of Ivanovo came to be called Spasskoye. No information about the reconstructions of the church in the 17th and 18th centuries has been preserved.

In 1843, a stone temple began to be built on the site of the former wooden church in Ivanovo. The refectory was consecrated in 1845, and the main church in 1848. The church has two altars: the main one in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and in the warm refectory, in honor of the Tolga Icon of the Mother of God. The church is well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. The local icons of the Transfiguration and the Tolga Mother of God have silver vestments with gilding. The iconostasis of the main church contains icons from the former wooden church.

On September 27, 2015, on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a commemorative cross was consecrated with God's help with the participation of the brethren of the Serapion Desert, the skete in Akino, and local residents. There are currently no prerequisites for the revival of the village and the restoration of the church, but the place where Spas-Ivanovo was located is very picturesque and convenient for living. Nearby there are ponds, fields, and a holy spring in Akino. If it is God's will, the village and the church will be revived again.
