Church of the Transfiguration in Solikamsk

Фото 1
The brick single-story church with five domes and a tent-shaped bell tower, dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord, was laid in 1684-1685. Its construction was carried out simultaneously with the Introduction Church on the site of the women's community. The architect was Login Korsakov, a specialist in stone works. However, on July 22, 1687, the walls and vaults collapsed. The construction was completed in 1690, and the church was consecrated on September 6, 1692.

The church includes an elongated narthex with a bell tower, a refectory, the main part, and a triple apse with windows in each semicircle. The narthex is decorated with arched windows and a wide panel on the western facade, where there is a risalit with an entrance arch framed by buttresses. The bell tower is a single-tier octagon, oriented edgewise to the western facade. The ringing tier is surrounded by an arcade on three semi-columns and covered with a brick tent with lucarnes. The tent is topped with a brick dome. The refectory has two windows on the southern and northern facades. The windows of the southern facade are located in deep niches with a box arch, while the windows of the northern facade, facing the monastery, are framed with casings featuring complex-profile kokoshniks. The main part of the church is designed in two lights with arched portals on the southern and northern facades. The facades are adorned with a double frieze and a cornice with an arcade of three zakomaras. The church is covered with a four-pitched roof and crowned with five domes on high drums. The drums rest on kokoshniks and are decorated with an arcade-columned belt. The central drum is light-filled.

In 1765, the monastery was abolished, and the churches became parish churches. From 1929, the building ceased to be used for worship and served the economic needs of various organizations until 1941. During the Great Patriotic War, a tank school was located here. After the war, the building was used as a workshop and garage. From 1951 to 1988, it served as production workshops for PSNPRM. Between 1952 and 1959, under the guidance of architect F.M. Toltsiner, restoration work was carried out: the onion domes with crosses, the northwest corner of the narthex, the buttresses, the columns of the southern porch, as well as the bricking of window openings and restoration of door lintels and the plinth were restored.

In 1991, the building was transferred for indefinite gratuitous use to the parish of the Spaso-Transfiguration Church.
