The village of Novo-Spasskoye, also known as New Spas, is located 70 versts from Vladimir and 12 versts from the district town of Pokrov. In ancient times, there was a church on the site of the present village, but by the beginning of the 17th century, it fell into disrepair, and in the patriarchal books of that time, it is mentioned as the Spasskaya deserted church land. In 1671, this land was transferred to Grigory Lopukhin, and in 1719, Ivan Lopukhin ceded it to his brothers Alexander and Mikhail Saltykov for the construction of a new church.

In 1720, a church was built and consecrated in honor of the All-Merciful Savior, with a priest, deacon, subdeacon, and prosphora-baker serving there. In 1772, as evidenced by an inscription on the preserved cross, a new wooden church was built in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord by the Miloslavsky landowners.

In 1822, the construction of a stone temple began on the site of the wooden church; in 1826, the altar was completed and consecrated, and in 1835, the main temple was finished. The church has two altars: the main one in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and in the warm altar, in honor of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. The church is well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. The church documents, including copies of the metric books from 1802 and confession lists from 1829, are kept in perfect order.

According to the staff, the church provides for a priest and a psalmist. Their maintenance is ensured by income from services and sacramental fees up to 840 rubles, from arable and haymaking land up to 80 rubles, as well as from bread collection and other contributions from parishioners up to 30 rubles per year. The residences of the clergy members are located on church land and belong to them. The parish includes the village of Novo-Spasskoye and the villages of Kalabrodovo, Aleksandrovka, Novo-Stepino, Zhary, Loshaki, and Kostino, where the clerical records list 655 men and 793 women. Since 1890, a literacy school has been operating in the village of Novo-Spasskoye, and in the village of Zhary, a zemstvo public school has been in operation since 1874.
