The village of Kalistovo is located on the banks of the Shakha River and the Babukha Stream, 33 versts from the district town and 90 versts from the provincial center. Until 1729, there are no mentions of a church in this village in the land and census books, as well as in the patriarchal tax books. The wooden church that existed here until almost the end of the last century was likely built after this date.

In 1796, the wooden church burned down, and with the funds from the local landowner, the construction of a stone temple began in 1797, completed in 1813. The temple has three altars: the main one dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord, and two in the chapels, in honor of the holy prophet Elijah and Saint Dimitri, Metropolitan of Rostov.

The church is well-equipped with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. All church documents are preserved: there are copies of the metric books since 1802 and confession lists since 1822.

According to the staff, the church has a priest and a psalmist. Their maintenance is supported by income from services and requirements, about 300 rubles, from arable and hay land, up to 200 rubles, and from bread collection, up to 25 rubles, totaling up to 525 rubles per year. There is a church house for the priest, and the psalmist has his own.

The church owns 33 dessiatinas and 2282 sazhen of arable and hay land, for which there is a plan and boundary book. The estate land is marked in the general peasant plan. There are also 24 dessiatinas and 2100 sazhen of land from the abolished church in the village of Yakovlev. The parish includes the village, the village of Yakovlev, the village of Kiucher, and the villages of Novorechevo and Novopavlovka, where according to the clerical records, there are 354 men and 373 women, all Orthodox.
