Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands in Verkhnespaskoe

Фото 1
The Savior Church in Verkhnespaskoe is built of stone, as is its bell tower and fence. It was erected in 1830 with funds from engineer-captain Maria Vasilyevna Boborykina. The cemetery is located separately from the church, 50 fathoms away, and is enclosed by a wooden fence. The church has five altars: in the warm part, the right one is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra, the left to Venerable Nil of Stolbensk; in the cold part, the central altar is dedicated to the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, the right to the Savior Not Made by Hands, and the left to the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos. The church holds special value due to the miraculous icons of the Savior Not Made by Hands and Venerable Nil of Stolbensk, which attract many pilgrims throughout the year. The church is located 340 versts from Kostroma and 110 versts from Vetluga. The nearest churches are the Ilyinskaya in the village of Klyuchey, 7 versts away, and the Nikolayevskaya in the village of Shangskoye-Gorodishche, 8 versts away.
