Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Purekh

Фото 1
In the mid-19th century, a Uniate Church of the Holy Spirit was built in the village of Purekh, located near the Spaso-Transfiguration Cathedral. The architecture of the church is in an eclectic style, featuring small kokoshniks, niches, an arcature frieze, arched door frames, an inter-floor cornice, and a frieze of small niches. A massive three-tiered bell tower, adorned with rustication, is attached to the building. According to the "Address Calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese" from 1888, this two-altar church was erected in 1855 with the permission of the Holy Synod at the request of Bishop Jeremiah of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas in honor of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. Currently, the church is not operational and is used as a collective farm storage. The building is in need of repairs.
