Church of the Wisdom of God in Savino, Yaroslavl

The Sofia Church in the village of Savino, built of stone in 1766 with funds from parishioners, has two altars. The main altar is dedicated to the Wisdom of God, and the church holiday is celebrated on the third day after Trinity. In the chapel dedicated to the icon of the Mother of God of Pskov, the celebration takes place on September 24. The church owns a plot of land measuring 260 square fathoms, which houses two wooden houses for the priest and deacon. The church capital amounts to 4212 rubles in bonds.

The village of Savino is located on the left bank of the Volga opposite Yaroslavl. The parish includes Yaroslavl merchants (1 man and 1 woman), townspeople from Yaroslavl and Norsky sloboda (31 men and 33 women), peasants from Savino (79 men and 82 women), as well as from the villages of Proskuryakov (40 men and 44 women) and Parkove (96 men and 101 women). There are also 40 retired military men and reservists and 47 women living here, and among the dissenters of the Austrian sect, there is 1 man and 1 woman, totaling 288 men and 309 women.

The village has a church parish school funded by parishioners and a trustee. According to the church staff, there is a rector and a psalmist. The parish capital amounts to 9051 rubles in bonds as of 1908. Currently, the village is within the city limits of Yaroslavl.

In 1937, during the Soviet regime, the church was closed after the arrest of the rector, Archpriest Apollos. Worship services resumed on July 12, 2002, and since then, restoration of the building, which suffered greatly during the Soviet years, has been ongoing.
