The chapel-tomb was built in 1818 with the blessing of Bishop Moses Platonov of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, funded by the landowner Yevgraf Lebedev. The building was a stone structure of square shape with two windows and grilles on the northern and southern sides, with the entrance located on the western side. The chapel was crowned with a dome topped by a cross and was erected over the grave of the clergyman of the church dedicated to the icon "Sophia, Wisdom of God," Peter Dmitriev.

Peter Dmitriev was born in 1734 in the village of Kamensky to a deacon serving in the local church. From a young age, he dedicated his life to serving God, becoming a sacristan in this church. For solitary prayers and fasting, Peter would go into the woods several versts from the village, where a cave was dug for him in a secluded ravine near a spring known as "Golden Key." Villagers often came to him for spiritual advice and comfort, and he was also revered by visitors from other towns. Peter Dmitriev actively assisted the residents of Kamensky in the construction of a stone church in honor of the icon "Sophia, Wisdom of God."

Peter Dmitriev passed away in 1814 at the age of 80 and was buried near the church he cared for. Four years later, a chapel was built at his grave, where an unquenchable lamp burned before the images of saints, and weekly memorial services were held.

In the 1930s, the chapel was destroyed. Its restoration began with the blessing of Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, starting with a prayer service and a procession of Orthodox believers on June 17, 2012.
