Фото 1
The church is located in the Smolensk cemetery in the city. Originally, the building was intended for conducting memorial services, but it was never used for that purpose. In 1991, it was acquired by the City Utilities of Tula and transferred to the community of the Assumption Cathedral. In the spring of that year, the first service was held in the renovated church.

In 1992, Lev Makhno became the rector of the church. Soon, heating and electricity were installed, the altar, sacristy, choir for singers, iconostasis, and altar were arranged, and a dome with a cross was placed on the roof. On August 10, 1993, on the day of the celebration of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, the church was consecrated.

In 2007 and 2008, the church was renovated and acquired a more modern appearance.
