The village of Shopsha is located on the Shopsha River, 26 versts from Yaroslavl. The village has 49 households, with 152 men and 149 women living there.

The name of the village has Merian origins. In 1803, a stone church was built here, dedicated to the Smolensk Holy Mother of God and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, next to which there is a wooden chapel.

The village has a volost administration, a school, as well as inns and taverns. There is also an estate belonging to the Kostylev heirs.

The total area of land is 36 desyatins. The parish includes three settlements: Shopsha, Gavrilkovo, and Selishche. In total, these settlements have 43 houses, where 170 men and 205 women reside.
