Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God in Podlesovo

According to N. Filatov, the first church in the village was wooden and built in the mid-17th century by the boyar Ivan Petrovich Sheremetev. It was consecrated in honor of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God "Odigitria." The church was repeatedly subjected to fires, and in 1831 it was rebuilt in stone. Evidence of the fires is indicated by the charred remains and ash found in the ground. The church had summer and winter chapels, each with a stove decorated with tiles. The bell tower housed 8 bells, and the windows were fitted with ornate iron grilles. The iconostasis was carved and covered with thin gold plates, while the floor was laid with marble slabs.

The church was surrounded by a stone fence with cast-iron gates adorned with bas-reliefs, inside of which was a cemetery. The last priest was Father Vladimir Vostokov, who was arrested in 1937. After that, the church building was used as a warehouse, and the gravestones in the cemetery were destroyed. Only in August 1993 did the gradual restoration of the church begin.
