The village of Perovo, located near Gorokhovets, is known for its main attraction, Perunya Mountain, from which the village gets its name. On this mountain stood the church of Siluan of Athos. The mountain was named after the ancient Slavic god Perun. There is a legend that during thunderstorms, the church attracted lightning, thus protecting the village. In those times, when most people were illiterate, this was considered a miracle. The church, built of wood, was small and located on the riverbank. No images of this church have survived to this day. According to locals, it burned down during one of the storms, but there is no documentary evidence of this. Currently, there are no traces of the church at the site; the mountain has overgrown and attracts tourists interested in active recreation. In the late 20th century, with the revival of religion in Russia, the existence of the church in Perovo was remembered, but it was not possible to restore or rebuild it. The parish was placed in a converted wooden house in the village itself, rather than on the mountain. The church has been active since the late 20th century.
