Church of Sergius of Radonezh in Vologda

Фото 1
The Church of Sergius of Radonezh became the first parish church in Vologda built after 1917. Currently, it is the only wooden parish church in the regional capital.

The idea to build the church came from the residents of a new individual housing area in Vologda, located by the Yevkovka River. It was decided to construct the church from wood using funds from benefactors.

In 1999, a cross was erected at the future church site, and the parish of Sergius of Radonezh was established in 2001. Construction began in April 2004, and the first prayer service took place on July 18 of the same year. Since February 2007, regular worship services have been held in the church.

The church is designed in the tent style and features a tent-shaped bell tower.

Until the 1920s, in Vologda, only a warm chapel dedicated to Sergius of Radonezh was consecrated in the cold church of the Assumption of the Mother of God of the Gorne-Uspensky Convent.
