The village of Streltzy was founded by archers during the construction of the Tambov fortress. The stone church, dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh with an altar in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Sign," was built in Streltzy from 1901 to 1903 with funds from parishioners and benefactors. The architectural style of the church is in retrospective style and includes a tall square base, on which stands a light octagon, decorated with several kokoshniks at the base of the tent and an onion dome on a faceted neck. On the eastern side, three faceted apses adjoin the main volume, and on the western side, there is a small refectory and a four-tiered tent bell tower with an onion-shaped top. The northern and southern facades of the church, as well as a modern chapel built nearby in the 1990s, are adorned with small domes and an ornate cross. During the Soviet era, the church was not officially closed, but from 1933 to 1943, it was used as a grain storage facility. In 1990, the church was returned to the faithful and is currently active.
