Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Stepanzevo

Фото 1
Currently, there is only a small chapel in Stepanzevo, located in the building of a former store. Local residents are forced to attend services in neighboring villages and towns, while some travel to the city or to Edon. The idea of building their own church arose from one of the entrepreneurs from the capital, whose ancestors lived in Stepanzevo. The villagers have long dreamed of having their own church with an altar and a throne for full-fledged services, so they enthusiastically responded to the call to raise funds for construction.

The construction of the church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh began in 2012. The first stone was laid in the year of the 700th anniversary of St. Sergius of Radonezh, which determined the choice of the patron saint. In the first year, the foundation was laid, and in the second year, the walls were erected. The roof and domes were installed on December 28, 2015. There is still much work ahead on the interior finishing and painting, which will be assisted by local artists. If all goes according to plan, in a couple of years, the church in Stepanzevo will open its doors to parishioners.

The church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh is designed as a rectangular building made of red brick, with high windows, arched openings, and triangular pediments. It is adorned with a large main dome and three domes on the bell tower. The walls of the church contain bricks with the names of people who contributed to the construction.
