Krutets, a village in the Buturlin district, where, according to the "Address Calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese" for 1904, a wooden church was built in 1801. The main altar of the church was dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh, and the chapels to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the Mother of God "Three-Handed", as well as to the apostles Peter and Paul.

According to information from Olga Dyogteva, the church with a bell tower on a stone foundation was erected in 1801 with funds from the villagers. The church had two altars: the main one dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh, and a warm chapel in the refectory part dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The consecration was conducted by Archpriest Jacob, the rector of the Archangel Cathedral in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1844, the church was renovated: a stone foundation was laid, the walls were covered with planks and painted yellow. The metal roof and central dome were painted green, and the wooden cross was covered with white iron. Inside, the refectory part was plastered and whitewashed. In the same year, the local priest Alexander Gratsianov reconsecrated the Nicholas chapel. In 1911, the church was renovated again, updating the wall cladding. Next to the church were a watchman's lodge and a shelter for homeless elderly people. During the Soviet era, the church was closed, desecrated, and completely destroyed.
