In 1858, a stone church with a single altar and bell tower was built in the village of Bolshie Bakury, thanks to the efforts of local residents. The church staff included a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist, and church houses were provided for them. The village also had a two-class church school.

The village administration transferred the polyclinic building to the Orthodox community for the creation of a church. The parish was officially registered in 2003, and on March 8 of the same year, the church was consecrated by Archbishop Sergey of Samara and Syzran. In 2007, renovation work was carried out: the roof over the altar was updated, rafters, battens, and slate were replaced. Renovations continued in 2008.

On July 18, 2009, the laying of a new church in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh took place. On this day, a procession was held to the site where the previous destroyed church stood, where the new one is being built. Construction began in December 2008 and is funded by a pious family wishing to remain anonymous. This family is originally from the village of Bakury but currently resides in Moscow.
