The chapel of the city charity house was built in 1891. The construction was financed by Y.P. Godyaeva in memory of her relative, the well-known Kazan merchant and philanthropist F.E. Postnikov, who donated a house to the shelter. Originally, the church, founded in 1850, was located in an extension to the residential building of the charity house. However, due to a lack of space, it was decided to erect a separate building on the red line of the street next to the previous structure.

The building, large and standing on a low pedestal, has a two-story rectangular base and features a basilica-like character due to the elevated central volume along the longitudinal and transverse axes. In the southern part of the upper longitudinal volume, above the triangular gables, there was a low polygonal drum supporting a closed vault with a dome, which has been lost. The ends of the third floor are designed as gables. The facades of the building are pierced with wide square windows, arranged rhythmically. Between the windows and at the corners, there are rusticated pilasters. Some openings and niches in the gabled walls of the upper floor have arched shapes with decorative spire-like finishes. Along the top of the walls, there are profiled cornices with a slight overhang. This is a unique monument of cult architecture, eclectic in its volumetric-spatial solution and decorative design.
