The village of Suerka in the Uporovsky district is one of the oldest in the south of the Tyumen region. Founded in 1610 by Osip Nikolaevich Davydov from Veliky Ustyug, it was originally called Osipovo and became known for the miraculous icon of the Smolensk Mother of God. In the second quarter of the 18th century, a plague ravaged the area. The Mother of God appeared to one of the parishioners and instructed him to write the Smolensk icon of the Mother of God at the Rafailovsky Monastery. Hieromonk Makarii fulfilled this request, and the icon was brought to Suerka. After a prayer service before it, the calamities ceased.

In 1778, a stone church was laid on the high bank of the Tobol River, with chapels in honor of Athanasius and Cyril of Alexandria and in honor of the Smolensk icon of the Mother of God. The icon, adorned with a silver riza and precious stones, received generous offerings from parishioners, corresponding to numerous healings.

The drought of 1770 forced the residents of Yalutorovsk to appeal to the diocesan authorities for help. It was decided to bring the icon to the city on the first Sunday of the Peter's Fast. In 1772, when the icon was raised from Suerka on the ninth Friday after Easter, a heavy rain began, lasting three days. Thanks to the rain, the crops and grasses revived, bringing joy to the residents. Since then, thousands of pilgrims began to visit Suerka specifically on the ninth Friday after Easter. The icon was returned to the village via Zavodoukovsk, where it was met with reverence and respect.

In 1901, it was decided to build a new church on the site of the old cemetery church, as the bank where the 1778 church stood was eroding. The church, built with the funds of parishioners and consecrated in 1914 in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov, became a beautiful architectural monument of the early 19th century. It was adorned with wall frescoes and an iconostasis covered with gold leaf. However, in the 1930s, repressions took the lives of the church's ministers, and during the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed and turned into a grain storage facility. The miraculous icon was transferred to Yalutorovsk.

In 1946, services resumed, but in May 1964, the church's domes were removed, church utensils were taken away, and the churchwarden Arkhipov was put on trial. The revival of the church began on July 3, 1999, when priest Pavel Lozovik held a meeting of the Orthodox residents of the village, and restoration work began. On the ninth Friday of 2000, priest Pavel brought a copy of the miraculous icon from the Znamensky Cathedral. The original icon of the Smolensk Mother of God also returned to the church.

In the spring of 2004, a fire from the village of Chimeyevo in the Kurgan region threatened the village of Staraia Shadrina. History repeated itself, and parishioners turned to protodeacon Sergey Shvalev. By the blessing of Archbishop Dmitry of Tobolsk and Tyumen, the icon was raised in the Assumption-Nikolsky Church of Yalutorovsk. A prayer service was held in Yalutorovsk, while in Shadrina, they fought the fire. The wind changed direction, and when the icon arrived in the village, the threat passed. Protodeacon Sergey Shvalev and priest Georgy Sannikov held a thanksgiving prayer service.

Since then, the miraculous icon has been in the Seraphim of Sarov Church, and every year on the ninth Friday after Easter, pilgrims come here to participate in the procession. The Most Holy Virgin continues to grant her gracious help to all who turn to her holy image in faith.
