The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in the village of Yakunkino, built of stone along with a bell tower, was erected in 1854 through the efforts of parishioners and with the support of benefactors. The fence around the church is also made of stone. There is a cemetery on the church grounds. The church has three altars: in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Venerable Macarius of Unzha, and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. It is 180 versts to Kostroma and 115 versts to Makaryevo. The nearest churches are the Transfiguration Church in the village of Mokronosovo, 4 versts away, the Assumption Church in the village of Dorofeevo, and the Trinity Church in the village of Kruttsy, both 7 versts away.
