The village of Voshazhnikovo in the Yaroslavl region is one of the oldest in Russia, first mentioned in the 13th century. It was owned by the Puzhbolsky princes. During the times of the Moscow Tsardom, the village became a royal estate, supplying the tsar's court with delicious fish and wonderful honey from local apiaries. Every year, the "Sheremetev Celebrations" take place here in memory of the meeting between peasant girl Praskovya Kovalyova and Count Sheremetev, whose story is said to have inspired Pushkin to create "The Lady-Peasant."

After successful campaigns in Astrakhan, Peter I gifted the village to Boris Sheremetev, and it became known as "Grafshchina." The new owner transformed it into a prosperous noble estate, building a manor with a garden surrounded by paths made of crushed stone.

The main decoration of the village became the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a bell tower and spire, which dominated the local landscape. In 1800, a clock with a chime was installed on the bell tower, audible from a considerable distance due to the elevation of the village.

A serf theater operated at the estate. It is said that it was here that Praskovya Kovalyova met Nikolai Sheremetev. Captivated by her, he invited her to the theater, and their romantic relationship developed despite social barriers. Nikolai even proposed to her, risking the loss of his noble title.

This love story inspired many poets, and it is rumored that Pushkin was impressed by Nikolai Sheremetev's actions. There is a version that their relationship laid the foundation for the folk song "Late Evening from the Grove."

During the Soviet era, this was forgotten, and the estate buildings housed a slaughterhouse and a repair shop for tractors.
