The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, located in the village of Tunoshna, was built in 1781. Its construction was financed by local residents and landowner Varentsov. A hundred years later, a decision was made to expand the church by increasing the refectory. Initially, the church had five domes, like many churches in Yaroslavl, but during the Soviet era, it lost its top and bell tower. In 1939, the church was closed and was used as a storage facility.

In the mid-1990s, the building was transferred to a newly formed Orthodox community. Due to limited funds, the parish was only able to restore one dome. The interior painting, internal decor, and iconostasis design were carried out under the guidance of Pavel Dmitrievich Miskin, head of the art workshop "Yaroslavl Iconostasis." Winter chapels of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Catherine the Great Martyr appeared in the refectory. The church reopened its doors to parishioners in 1997. Every year on September 7, the anniversary of the plane crash of the Yak-42 with the Yaroslavl hockey team "Lokomotiv" on board, Father Vladimir from the Nativity Church, along with parishioners, holds a memorial service at the site of the tragedy.
