The village was founded in the 19th century, but the exact date of its appearance is unknown. According to local historians, the name of the settlement is related to the clay soil on which it was established: the word "sugra" translates to "clay." In 1913, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in the village. According to legend, in the spring, a married couple found an icon in the field, and when they were taking it home, it began to glow. This happened again in the autumn, which people took as a sign, and a church was built at the site of the discovery. The church served the faithful until it was closed in the 1930s when it was nationalized and handed over to local authorities. The building was used as a club, then as a grain storage facility and warehouse.

In 2000, the building was returned to the Orthodox Church, and it was renovated with the funds and efforts of the parishioners. Inside, it was lined with boards, a new iconostasis was installed, and the exterior walls were covered with planks and painted. The church grounds were fenced with a wooden fence and improved. In 2002, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was restored in Sugristom.

From 2016 to 2018, the building underwent repairs. Urgent emergency works were carried out, including facade repairs, roof repairs, interior finishing, replacement of frames, and installation of a second layer of glazing, as well as landscaping of the territory.
