The village of Novoe in the Danilovsky district is located on a plain, away from nearby streams. In 1808, a stone church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built with funds from landowner Anna Avraamievna Bulgakova, surrounded by a stone fence. Interestingly, the 1908 publication "Brief Information about the Monasteries and Churches of the Yaroslavl Diocese" mentions only two altars in the winter church: one on the south side, dedicated to St. John Climacus, and the other on the north side, in honor of Saints Simeon the God-receiver and Anna the Prophetess.

The church is designed as a three-light rotunda, topped with a dome adorned with a light drum and an onion-shaped cupola. The naive combination of various styles in the decor, created by a serf architect, is impressive: three-quarter columns coexist with pointed finishes of the skylights and old-fashioned window frames of the first light.
