In the 1860s, 16 versts from Kostroma, the Bogoyavlensko-Anastasievsky Women's Monastery established the Nazareth Desert, which served as a suburban monastic estate. In the 1880s, a red brick church was built there, dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. After the monastery was closed in 1919, a state farm called 'Nazaret' was organized based on the estate of the desert, which was soon renamed 'Oktyabrsky'. In January 1922, a club for the state farm opened in the closed church, operating until 1924, when the building was abandoned due to the collapse of the state farm. On June 29, 1955, at the suggestion of the Kostroma District Executive Committee, permission was granted to dismantle the church and sell its materials to the collective farm 'Zarya Sotsializma', which was soon carried out. Today, there are no traces left of the Nativity Church of the desert.
