The church was built in the early 17th century, and it was originally wooden. It is unknown when and by whom it was rebuilt in stone. The church is first mentioned in 1628 in the list of parish churches of the Balakhna district as an active parish church: "The Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the estate of the boyar Prince Dmitry Mikhailovich Pozharsky in the Puretsky volost in the village of Kropivenskoe." In the address calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese for 1888, two churches are indicated in the village of Krapivino. One of them, a stone church in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was built in 1854 and had two altars. The second, also stone, was dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and was built in 1864, with one altar.

Today, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary belongs to the Nizhny Novgorod factory named after Frunze and is used for its needs. The condition of the church leaves much to be desired: it is partially destroyed and neglected, and the bell tower has been completely demolished. However, the Russian Orthodox Church is considering the issue of returning this site under its jurisdiction. There are also plans to create a cultural center "Purek Sloboda," which will unite four churches and a museum.
