The village of Kabansk is located on the Teza River, 18 versts from the district town and 105 from the provincial capital. According to the scribal books of 1628 and 1629, it was an ancient estate of Princess Trubetskaya. At that time, there stood a wooden church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a tented roof and chapels dedicated to Saint Andrew Stratilat, Reverend Sergius of Radonezh, and the martyrs Flora and Lavra, built by the estate owners.

In addition to this church, there was another one in honor of the prophet Elijah, also wooden and with a tented roof. In 1709, at the initiative of the village owner, chamberlain Alexei Miloslavsky, the Elijah Church was rebuilt and consecrated anew. In 1722, the same landowner built a new church to replace the dilapidated Nativity Church, also dedicating it to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and adding a chapel in honor of Reverend Sergius of Radonezh.

According to a report from 1799, Kabansk had two wooden churches: one in honor of the prophet Elijah, built by the parishioners and with a wooden bell tower, and the other, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, erected in 1765, also with a wooden bell tower.

In 1824, with the funds of landowner Pavel Petrovich Svinin and the support of parishioners, a stone temple was built to replace the two wooden churches. It has three altars: the main one in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and in the chapels, in the name of the prophet Elijah and Reverend Sergius of Radonezh. In 1866, the Sergius chapel was separated by a wooden partition and made warm.
