The village of Gorodishche is located on the eastern shore of Lake Plescheyevo, 4 versts from the district town and 120 versts from the provincial center.

The exact date of the church's founding in the village of Gorodishche is unknown, but it existed as early as the beginning of the 17th century. The land books of 1628 and 1629 mention a wooden church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a tented roof. The church housed icons, candles, books, and bells, and nearby was the priest's house. In 1703, there was also a wooden church in the village dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with an octagonal structure covered with white German iron and a roof made of planks. In 1737, another wooden warm church was built nearby, consecrated in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1761, it was rebuilt and reconsecrated in his honor.

In 1791, the construction of a stone temple began on the site of the two wooden churches, with the main altar consecrated in 1795 and the side altar later. This five-domed church has survived to this day. It has two altars: a cold altar in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a warm side altar in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church is well-equipped with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. All church documents are in order, including copies of the metric books since 1802 and confession lists since 1827.

According to the staff, the church has a priest and a psalmist. Their maintenance is ensured by an income of 914 rubles per year, which comes from interest on capital, arable land, hayfields, grain collection, as well as from services and requirements. The priest's house belongs to the church, while the psalmist has his own.

The church lands include 3 desyatinas of estate land, 30 desyatinas 488 square fathoms of arable land, and 5 desyatinas 2292 square fathoms of hayfield land, of which up to 3 desyatinas are unsuitable for use. There is a plan and boundary book for this land. The parish includes the village and the villages of Kriushkino and Knyazhevo, located 2 and 3 versts from the church, respectively. According to the clerical records, the parish counts 419 men and 476 women, all Orthodox. There are wooden chapels in the villages, one of which houses an ancient icon of Saint Nicholas. The church parish school operates in the village of Gorodishche.
