In the late 17th century, a significant area in the Khlunov district was known as "Filippovskaya Slobodka." In 1703, peasant Elizar Ivanovich Zhvakkin, along with other residents, submitted a petition for the construction of a wooden church in this sloboda, at the mouth of the Belaya River, in the name of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with an altar dedicated to the Forty Martyrs. He explained that the nearest churches were too far away and difficult to reach. However, the petition did not specify land allocation for the church and other needs, so it was returned without consideration.

For two years, the residents discussed land allocation issues, and in October 1705, Zhvakkin and other peasants submitted a new petition, now indicating a location for construction. With only 25 households, the residents decided to build the church by their own efforts. On October 20, 1705, Archbishop Dionysius granted permission for the church's construction under certain conditions. Craftsmen erected the wooden church in a year and a half, and it was consecrated in August 1707.

By 1744, the church had become dilapidated and cramped due to the increasing number of parishioners. It was then decided to build a new, more spacious church. Construction began in 1744 and was completed in 1748. The village now had two churches, and the old one stood for another seven years. In 1773, the church was expanded, but in 1787, it burned down due to a lightning strike. After that, the residents built a temporary wooden church.

On August 23, 1787, a petition was submitted for the construction of a stone church, and on August 26, Bishop Lavrenty granted permission. The construction was funded by the parishioners and lasted 10 years. In 1797, the warm church was consecrated, and in 1804, the cold temple. In 1824, the church was expanded, and a bell tower 27 fathoms high was built. In 1843, a stone fence and stalls for fairs were constructed around the church.

In 1865, the temple was painted, the iconostases were updated, and in 1901, the church was expanded again. Services continued until the 1930s, after which the church was closed, and the building was used as a warehouse. Today, it is in poor condition: the roof and ceilings are damaged, and the floors are ruined.
