Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pismeniere

Фото 1
The church, built in 1863 by the efforts of the parishioners, was wooden, with a bell tower on a stone foundation. The fence around it was wooden and painted with oil paint. The cemetery was located outside the village, a quarter of a verst away, and was enclosed by a fence. The church had one altar in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the village of Bolshie-Oshkaty, which belonged to the parish of this church, there was a chapel revered as the place of the appearance of the icon of Saint Nicholas, which is kept in the church of the village of Tonshaev. Every year on May 9, the icon was ceremoniously transferred to the chapel. The church was located 450 versts from Kostroma and 100 versts from Vetluga. The nearest churches were in the village of Bolshie Selki (John Chrysostom) 14 versts away, as well as in the villages of Tonshaev (Nicholas) and Oshminsky (Archangel) 16 versts away. The church burned down in 1982.
