The village of Shirokovsky is located 160 versts from Yekaterinburg and 45 versts from Shadrinsk, on the left bank of the Suvarysh River and its tributaries, the rivers Bayrak and Maray. The surrounding area is hilly, with black soil and, in some places, clay soil. The climate here is healthy, but in summer, due to water pollution in the small rivers, residents experience stomach diseases. The parish of the village consists of a single settlement.

Initially, the village belonged to the Dalmatov Monastery. On its lands, around 1763, and according to the census of Poskochino, around 1711, a runaway peasant, Mikhail Yakovlevich Shirokov, settled here, founding the first settlement and giving it his name.

With the construction of a separate church in 1786, the Shirokovsky settlement formed an independent parish. The villagers, Russian peasants, engage in agriculture, as well as tailoring, carpentry, blacksmithing, and transportation.

The stone church in the village was laid in 1784. The main altar is dedicated to the Nativity of John the Baptist, while the side warm altar is dedicated to the Nativity of Jesus Christ. The side church was consecrated on May 19, 1786, by Bishop Varlaam, and the main one in 1793. In 1846, the church was rebuilt into a three-altar structure, dismantling the side church and the bell tower. The third altar, consecrated in 1878, is dedicated to the Apostle John the Theologian.

The iconostases of all three churches are adorned with gold leaf. Icons of Saint John the Baptist in a silver robe and Saint Mitrophan, painted in 1860 in memory of deliverance from a typhus epidemic, are particularly venerated. There is a chapel by the church, built at a spring south of the village in honor of the finding of the head of John the Baptist.

The church is surrounded by a stone fence, erected in 1868. There are houses for clergy and a church-parish school, as well as a zemstvo school.

In the 1930s, the church was closed and later destroyed. According to archival data from 1957, due to lack of maintenance, the iron roof rotted, and the wooden parts of the building were damaged, although the walls remained strong. The management of the Sverdov collective farm requested permission to dismantle the church for bricks to build a club, but these plans were not realized. Currently, restoration work on the site is nearing completion.
