According to the order of the Department for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod Region dated April 24, 2000, No. 5-OD, the rural Prechenskaya cemetery church of St. John the Baptist, built in 1863, was recognized as an object of historical and cultural heritage.

On July 7, 2016, a Divine Liturgy was held at the Church of the Nativity of the Prophet and Forerunner John the Baptist in the village of Ostrovskoye, Knyagininsky District, coinciding with the patronal feast. It was conducted by the rector of the church and the dean of the Knyagininsky district, Priest Alexey Shulgin. This was the first Divine Liturgy in the church in the last hundred years. According to local residents, the last service in this church took place during the tsarist times.
