In 1865, the construction of a stone church began in the village of Orshanka to replace a temporary wooden one. The work was funded by the parishioners. The cold summer church was completed in 1876, and the warm winter church in 1904.

The Precursor Church stood out for its special elegance and resembled the Sretenensky Church in the village of Kuchka, but was significantly larger. It had five domes, the drums of which were topped with tents and small crosses. The low refectory and the main cube of the church served as a pedestal for the upper volumes. The two-tiered bell tower was also topped with a tent. The church had five altars, three of which were consecrated in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist, the Holy Martyr Charalambos, and the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The church possessed rich utensils and a library of 250 books. The parish had over 3,000 members. A church school operated in the neighboring village of Karaksha.

Persecution of the church began in the early 1920s. In 1922, under the pretext of helping the starving, valuables made of gold and silver were confiscated from the church: a large chalice, a censer, a cover from the altar Gospel, a vestment from the icon of the Mother of God, and much more.

In 1932, the cold summer church was closed, and in the summer of 1939, the winter church was also closed. The godless individuals removed the crosses from the domes and the bell tower, and the bell tower itself was destroyed. A large 360-pud bell, purchased with the funds of the blessed Lyubushka, was sent for melting down, while the other bells were thrown down. The interior decoration of the church, including the iconostasis with unique images, wall paintings, and mosaics, was destroyed. The cold church was dismantled to its foundation. In 1937, the rector of the church, Father Sergey Strelnikov, was arrested on false charges of counter-revolutionary activity and shot.

In July 1941, the vacant warm church housed the production of the disabled artisans' cooperative "Universal." After the war, until the early 60s, there was a household store here, and by the early 90s, a warehouse of the district consumer society. In 1993, part of the building was handed over to the believers for a prayer room, belonging to the Sretenensky Church of the village of Kuchka.

In early 2001, it was decided to revive the entire church and create its own parish. In 2005, the repressed presbyter Sergey was canonized and glorified as a holy martyr, which gave a powerful impetus for work and support from the authorities of the Republic of Mari El. The restoration of the church was included in the government investment program "Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Mari El."

By the end of 2006, a bell tower was erected, and in the spring of 2007, 12 bells were installed on it. By 2011, the construction of the cold church was completed in a somewhat simplified form. The district consumer society dismantled the store and outbuildings on the church grounds, which were paved and laid with cobblestones, and surrounded by a metal fence. Behind the altar, the grave of the blessed Lyubushka of Orshanka, schemamonk Magdalene, was landscaped. As early as 2003, a children's Sunday school opened at the church, and a choir was organized, and in 2005, a library was established. On December 31, 2010, the church was consecrated.
