Before the 1956 reform of Russian orthography, the village was called Tsybeevo. According to local historian V. D. Ogurtsov, the name of the village is linked to the nickname of its founder, Tsyba or Tsybaty. The first documentary mentions of the village of Tsybeevo date back to 1625. However, V. D. Ogurtsov's research suggests that the village was founded in 1609, as its owner, Pyotr Nikitich Sheremetev, died that same year. It is possible that the history of the village began even earlier.

In 1879, a stone church was built in the village with the funds from parishioners. A stone bell tower was added in 1891. The altar in the church is dedicated to the Holy Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist of the Lord, John. In 1869, a warm stone church with two altars was built: on the right, in honor of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow," and on the left, in honor of the Holy Apostle James, the Lord's brother.

The church was closed in the 1930s.

Currently, the church is in a state of disrepair and is not being restored; however, local residents maintain order in the temple and the surrounding area.
