The wooden Church of the Nativity of Christ in the village of Stepnaya Shentala was built in 1876. By the end of the 20th century, it fell into disrepair, like its predecessor, which served until the mid-1870s. In this regard, the villagers decided at a meeting to build a new red brick building, constructed by local craftsmen from the Grishov family. The completion of the construction was planned for 1913 to mark the 300th anniversary of the Romanov House. Work began in the summer of 1900 and lasted thirteen years due to a lack of funds. Financing was provided through donations from parishioners, voluntary contributions from neighboring communities, and collections during services. In 1913, the church was solemnly opened.

In the early 1930s, the church was closed, and in August 1935, its domes and bells were removed and sent for melting, having been broken for easier transport. Part of the wall was dismantled, and the bricks were used for construction in the village of Salavan. The building, stripped of its roof and windows, stood for about ten years, after which it was handed over to the local collective farm, which covered it with a straw roof and used it as a storage facility.

Thus, the church remained in a semi-ruined state on the street of Stepnaya Shentala until 1989, when an initiative group of believers decided to restore the temple. In 1990, after the establishment of the Orthodox community, work began to restore the historical appearance of the Church of the Nativity of Christ.
