The wooden church, built by parishioners in 1868, is surrounded by a stone fence. It has four altars: the main one in honor of the Nativity of Christ and three in the chapels, in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the Prophet Elijah. There is also a chapel in the village.

The church land includes 1.5 desyatinas of homestead land and 39 desyatinas of arable and haymaking land. The clergy consists of a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist. The priest has his own house, while the deacon and psalmist have church-owned ones.

In the village of Smyshlyayevka, there are parishioners living in 423 households: 1457 men and 1461 women. There are two schools operating here: a zemstvo school and a church-parish school. The latter was opened in 1885 and is located in a building donated by a local peasant.
