In 1654, a chapel was built in Shumovka, which later became the Church of the Nativity of Christ, and by 1668 it was already mentioned as a church. How long it existed is unknown. In 1764, after the abolition of the Simbirsk Solovetsky Monastery, the church, located at the monastery gates and dedicated to the Protection of the Mother of God, was purchased for Shumovka for 21 rubles, but it burned down in 1770. In 1786, Prince Ivan Ivanovich Trubetskoy built a new church, which was moved to the cemetery in 1820, where it served as a chapel. At its former site, Prince Sergey Mikhailovich Golitsyn erected the current stone church in the name of the Nativity of Christ in 1824. This church did not survive, as it was destroyed during the Soviet years.
