An ancient legend about the Stone Cross is associated with the Christmas Monastery. According to the legend, this cross, surrounded by radiance, floated upstream on the Obnora River by itself. The monks from the Christmas Monastery, wishing to keep the relic, went to the shore with hooks and tried to fish out the cross. However, they only managed to chip off a small piece. The cross continued its miraculous journey upstream until it stopped within Vologda, near the village of Vysokoye. The villagers tried to carry the cross to the Nikolai-Vysokovskaya Church, but they could not lift it. Then they built a simple church on the bank of the Obnora in honor of the prophet Elijah, on the day the cross arrived at the village. It was there that the relic was placed. In the 19th century, the Stone Cross was temporarily taken to Vologda, but later it was returned to the Ilyinsky Church, where it remained until 1936. That year, the church burned down, and the cross perished in the fire, turning into rubble. According to eyewitness accounts, the four-ended cross kept in the Ilyinsky Church was carved from feldspar, stood about one and a half arshins tall, and bore the inscriptions 'IC XC' and 'НИ КА'. It also showed a mark from the hooks of the Christmas monks.
