Church of the Nativity of Christ in Romanovka

Фото 1
The Nativity Church, located in the settlement of Romanovka, was built in 1826 through the efforts of the parishioners. It is a stone, warm building with a stone bell tower. The church has three altars: the main one is dedicated to the Nativity of Christ, the right side altar to Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky, and the left to Archangel Michael.

The church complex included a stone watchman's lodge with two sections: for the watchmen and for the prosphora, a stone storage room in the enclosure, as well as a house with outbuildings that was rented out.

As of 1894, the clergy included three priests, a deacon, and three psalmists, and they had church houses. Since October 1, 1871, a church-parish guardianship was in operation, and in 1888, a church-parish women's school was opened. At that time, there were also two zemstvo schools in the settlement, and by 1912, their number had increased to four: three ministerial and one zemstvo.

Two more churches were affiliated with the Nativity Church. The first, dedicated to Saints Roman and David, was wooden and warm, with a wooden bell tower, built in 1859 and consecrated in 1860. It was located one verst from the Nativity Church. The second, the cemetery church, was also wooden and warm, with a wooden bell tower, built in 1888 and consecrated in honor of the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica.

In the 1930s, the church was closed, and in 1941, the dome and bell tower were destroyed. In the mid-1950s, the building was converted into a club.

In 1991, the church building was transferred to the parish for indefinite use. In the same year, Archpriest Alexander Boldaev performed a minor consecration of the church. To date, only the main altar has been consecrated, but there are plans to restore the side altars. By the end of 2003, the restoration of the bell tower was completed thanks to donations from the governor of the Saratov region, D. F. Ayatskov. The Ural Metal Structures Plant 'UMEKON' donated funds for the purchase of bells. Currently, work is underway to arrange the second altar of the church. The rector is Priest Maxim Kurov.
