The village of Orkino, formerly known as Kuchugury, was founded in the late 17th century by runaway peasants. In the early 18th century, peasant Orka Kostanov and his companions called on the residents of the Penza province to migrate to Saratov to develop new lands. The call was answered by residents of the Penza villages of Magim, Sidoma, Kozlovka, Yeremeyevka, and Saraykino, among whom the Mordvins and Erzya predominated. It is likely that several families of Moksha also participated in the settlement, which explains the mixing of languages. In the early 18th century, the population of the village was about 200 people, and by the early 19th century, it had increased to 8-9 thousand. The baptism of the Mordvins in Orkino took place in the mid-18th century thanks to priest Antipov, and a chapel was built on Russian Street.

The Church of the Nativity of Christ in Orkino was built in 1844 through the efforts of the parishioners, and an extension was added at the end of the 19th century. The church had one altar in the name of the Nativity of Christ, and the clergy included a priest, a deacon, and two psalmists. This information is taken from the Saratov State Archive, the fund of the Saratov Spiritual Consistory. In 1934, the church was closed and was used as a warehouse and club, during which the dome and the upper part of the bell tower were destroyed.

In 1988, the keys to the church were handed over to representatives of the church, and restoration began. From 1988 to 1992, the church was cleared of debris and old cement, the dome and roof were restored, the central part and part of the left side were plastered, and floors were laid in the altar. A simple altar barrier and temporary plywood partitions were installed, as well as a stove for partial heating. Alongside the repairs, prayers and akathists were held in the central part of the church. The registration of the parish religious community began, with its charter registered in 1991 and re-registered in 1999. Worship services resumed on August 19, 1990.

In December 2007, a technical passport for the church building and a cadastral plan for the land plot were issued. The church has a technical inspection report dated February 27, 2004. On January 26, 2009, the church was transferred to the ownership of the Saratov Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. The area of the church is 349 square meters, and renovation work continues in 2019.
