In 1953, when the Kuybyshev Reservoir was being built, residents of three villages, Krestovo-Gorodishche, Vyselki, and Kaibely, were relocated to a new elevated site. Each of these villages had a church, which were dismantled and moved to the new village of Krestovo-Gorodishche. From the materials obtained, a club, a dormitory, a cafeteria, and two residential houses for the state farm workers were built. However, many believers in the new settlement continued to travel to worship services in Ulyanovsk, Verkhnyaya Terassa, and Cherdakly, dreaming of their own church in Krestovo-Gorodishche. This was a long and difficult process.

In December 1997, believers gathered for a meeting in 30-degree frost, where more than 100 people decided to occupy an empty building. They resolved that if the house had no owner, then it should belong to the Lord God. On the eve of Epiphany, the villagers came to this building, prayed in the cold with icons in their hands, removed the locks, and entered inside. They lit the stove, tidied up, washed the windows and floors, arranged the icons, and lit candles. The elderly women recalled prayers and psalms, demonstrating deep faith and spiritual thirst.

Zoya Efimovna was elected as the elder, who collected icons and furniture from homes. Candles were placed in basins with sand, and old nightstands were used as analogs, which were cleaned and painted. A week before Easter, the prayer house was consecrated. Thanks to the efforts and donations of Ksenia Mizyurina, Tamara Stuchilina, Lyudmila Ivanovna Morozova, Andrey Morozov, Nina Viktorovna from Cherdakly, Nina Ivanovna from Ulyanovsk, and other benefactors, the church gradually became more beautiful. People, including the youth, began to visit it.

In 2009, reconstruction was carried out: the altar was expanded, the building was enlarged, the vault of the church was raised, the roof was covered, gas was supplied, and the facade was sheathed. Significant assistance was provided by benefactor Valery Tarasov and Ivan Skutelnik, who financed the fence and heating system of the church. In August 2011, the main dome was installed, and on May 7, 2012, four more small domes.
