The church in the village of Epanchino was part of the 6th Kozlovsky Old-Yurievsky district, which had 31 churches. According to Andreevsky, this stone, warm building was erected in 1803. The church has two altars: the main one in honor of the Nativity of Christ and the side altar of the Ascension of the Lord, and a third altar for Saints Peter, Alexius, Jonah, and Philip was also planned. The church houses ancient liturgical books and a Gospel from the time of Catherine II. The village has 457 households, and the parish includes the village of Montvid with 38 households. A verst from the church is the hamlet of the merchants Korinlovs. Nearby flows the Lesnoy Voronezh River. The village has a church-parish school and a zemstvo school, as well as church-parish guardianship. An inventory of church property and metric books have been preserved since 1813. The staff includes a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist. The parish is located 16.5 versts from the Kozlov station and 10 versts from the post office in the village of Glazok. The postal address is the Glazok post office of the Tambov province, for telegrams, city of Kozlov, Epanchino.

It is believed that on the site of the current stone church, the ruins of which have survived to this day, there may have previously been a wooden church of the Nativity of Christ. It is known that since 1843, one of the first primary schools in the Kozlovsky district operated at the church.

The further history of the temple became known from the stories of the old-timers Anna Trofimovna Petrova, born in 1923, and Alexandra Semyonovna. Anna Trofimovna reported that the church ceased its activities soon after the revolution, but remained intact until the 1950s. In a photograph provided by her, the church and bell tower are visible. "However," adds Anna Trofimovna, "in the 1950s, the bell tower was destroyed, and a house was built nearby from its bricks. Some bricks were taken to other villages." Alexandra Semyonovna recounted that after the war, the church was long used as a grain storage, which is confirmed by the remnants of grain that feed the birds living inside.

Today, the condition of the church is lamentable. It has survived well on the outside; builders clearly tried to make it last for centuries. However, inside there is desolation: the floor is missing, almost all the frescoes have crumbled, the doors are in cracks, and the windows are empty. The iconostasis evokes mixed feelings: admiration for the craftsmanship of its creators and the realization that it is crumbling before our eyes.

The history of the Nativity Church in the village of Epanchino spans more than two hundred years, of which the last hundred years it has been slowly deteriorating. Perhaps in a hundred years, no one will remember this Orthodox shrine of the Tambov region.
