The Church of the Placement of the Robe was moved from the village of Borodava in 1957 to the territory of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. It is the oldest precisely dated monument of Russian wooden architecture. An antimins used during the consecration of the church has been preserved, which was found in 1866 by priest Pavel Levitsky. Before the October Revolution of 1917, it was kept in the sacristy of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. The date indicated on the antimins corresponds to October 1, 1485, by the modern calendar.

The Church of the Placement of the Lord's Robe was built in the village of Borodava on a high cape at the confluence of the Borodava River into the Sheksna, 23 kilometers from the Ferapontov Monastery, located near Borodava Lake. The village of Borodava belonged to the Ferapontov Monastery and served as a transshipment base and a port. The temple was constructed under the direction and funding of Archbishop Joasaph of Rostov and Yaroslavl, known in the world as Prince Ivan Obolensky.

The church is designed in the traditional cell style of ancient Rus and consists of three parts of different heights and sizes: the main volume, the altar, and the refectory. Before the renovation in 1848, the refectory was surrounded by an open gallery on pillars. The church's log structure is made of pine logs with a diameter of 18 to 20 cm, carefully selected so that their size remained constant along the entire length. At a height of 2.25 m in the southern wall of the church, there is a narrow window that illuminated the magnificent iconostasis.

By the time the church was closed in 1950, 19 icons dated to the late 15th and early 16th centuries had been preserved. In December 1956, all the icons were sent for restoration to the Rublev Museum in Moscow. The management of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum had to make significant efforts to return them. The first 14 icons returned in 1998, and the remaining five in 2000. They are now displayed in the exhibition of the Refectory Chamber of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve.

The restoration of the Church of the Placement of the Robe by complete disassembly began in late August 2009 under the guidance of the laureate of the State Prize of the RSFSR, Alexander Vladimirovich Popov. Currently, the main restoration work has been completed: the church has been reassembled, the log structures have been restored, the ancient roof has been recreated, and the gallery has been reconstructed according to 19th-century drawings.
